Problem Statement

System administration is stuck in the 2000s — manual server provisioning, ad-hoc patching, inconsistent hardening, backup scripts that nobody has tested in months. When a critical server fails, recovery takes hours because the runbook is outdated and the DR procedure was last tested when the system was built. SysOps modernization applies automation, Infrastructure as Code, and operational discipline to system administration — so your systems are provisioned in minutes, patched automatically, hardened consistently, and recoverable in minutes.

Business Outcomes

  • Server provisioning time: Days/weeks → minutes (Infrastructure as Code + automated configuration management)
  • Patch compliance: Inconsistent → 95%+ with automated scheduling and reporting
  • Security hardening: Manual, per-server → automated, consistent, CIS benchmark-aligned
  • Recovery Time Objective (RTO): Hours → minutes (automated DR with verified backups)
  • System administration toil: 60%+ → under 15% through automation

What We Do — SysOps Consulting

We modernize your system administration practice. Infrastructure as Code for server provisioning. Automated configuration management. Automated patching with compliance reporting. CIS benchmark-aligned hardening. Backup and DR automation with regular verification. Capacity planning and performance optimization.

Consulting Services

  • SysOps Maturity Assessment: Evaluate your system administration maturity across provisioning, configuration management, patching, hardening, backup/DR, and monitoring. Output: scored assessment with prioritized modernization roadmap.
  • System Architecture Review: Review your server infrastructure architecture — OS selection, configuration standards, security hardening, backup strategy, capacity planning.

Implementation Services

  • Infrastructure as Code (Servers): Terraform, Ansible, Packer — every server defined in code, versioned, reviewed, and deployed through pipelines. Golden images with CIS-hardened configurations.
  • Configuration Management: Ansible, Puppet, Chef — consistent configuration across your server fleet. Drift detection and auto-remediation. Immutable infrastructure patterns where appropriate.
  • Automated Patching: Patch orchestration for Linux (yum, apt, dnf) and Windows (WSUS, SCCM). Maintenance window scheduling. Automated testing. Rollback on failure. Compliance dashboards.
  • System Hardening: CIS benchmark implementation. Automated hardening validation (OpenSCAP, InSpec, Lynis). Continuous compliance monitoring. Drift detection.
  • Backup & DR Automation: Automated backup scheduling and verification. DR runbook automation. Regular DR testing with automated validation. RTO/RPO monitoring and reporting.
  • Performance Optimization: System profiling. Resource utilization analysis. Tuning recommendations. Capacity forecasting based on historical trends.

Support Services

  • Managed SysOps: 24×7 system monitoring, patching, hardening, backup/DR operations. Defined SLAs for incident response and system recovery.
  • SysOps Team Outsourcing: Dedicated system administrators operating as your team. Your infrastructure. Our expertise.

Tools & Ecosystem

IaC/Config Management: Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Packer Patching: Ansible, Red Hat Satellite, WSUS, SCCM, custom patch orchestration Hardening: OpenSCAP, InSpec, Lynis, CIS-CAT Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, Checkmk, Zabbix Backup: Veeam, Bacula, Amanda, cloud-native (AWS Backup, Azure Backup) DR: Terraform, Ansible, cloud-native DR services

Operating Model

  1. Provision: Every server defined in code — provisioned in minutes, not weeks
  2. Configure: Consistent, automated configuration management with drift detection
  3. Harden: CIS benchmark-aligned hardening applied automatically, validated continuously
  4. Patch: Automated patch scheduling, testing, and deployment with compliance reporting
  5. Backup: Automated backup with regular verification and DR testing
  6. Monitor: Server health, performance, capacity — proactive alerting

Typical Deliverables

  • SysOps maturity assessment
  • Infrastructure as Code modules for server provisioning (Terraform + Ansible)
  • Automated patching framework with compliance dashboards
  • System hardening baseline (CIS-aligned) with continuous validation
  • Backup and DR automation with verified recovery procedures
  • System monitoring dashboards (Grafana)
  • SysOps runbooks
  • Knowledge transfer workshop for system administration team

Who Should Use This Service

  • Heads of IT Infrastructure managing 50–5,000+ servers across on-premises and cloud
  • System Administration Managers seeking to automate manual, repetitive operations
  • CTOs / CIOs whose infrastructure operations are a bottleneck to business agility
  • Organizations subject to compliance requiring documented system hardening and patching
  • Teams managing hybrid infrastructure (on-premises + cloud) needing consistent operations

Frequently Asked Questions

Aren’t SysOps and CloudOps the same thing? They overlap but differ in scope. SysOps focuses on system-level operations — OS configuration, hardening, patching, backups, performance — regardless of where the system runs (on-premises, cloud, or hybrid). CloudOps focuses on cloud-native operations — multi-cloud governance, cloud service optimization, and cloud-specific services (Lambda, RDS, etc.). Most organizations need both: SysOps for what runs on the servers, CloudOps for the cloud platform the servers run on.

Can you automate our existing manual server build process? Yes. This is one of our most common engagements. We convert your existing manual build procedure into Infrastructure as Code (Terraform + Ansible) and golden images (Packer). The process becomes: commit → PR → merge → automated build → automated test → deploy. What previously took 2–4 weeks of manual effort takes 15 minutes — and the result is identical every time.

Do you work with both Linux and Windows environments? Yes. Our system administration expertise covers both Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, Debian, Amazon Linux, etc.) and Windows Server. Patching, hardening, and configuration management work across both. We recommend tooling based on your OS mix — Ansible works well for heterogeneous environments.
