Kibana Training — Elastic Stack Visualization, Dashboards & Log Analytics

Master Kibana: Discover, Visualize, Dashboard, Canvas, Alerting, and Elasticsearch integration. For log analytics, security analytics, APM visualization, and operational dashboards.

What Is Kibana?

Kibana is the visualization layer of the Elastic Stack (ELK) — a browser-based interface for searching, visualizing, and analyzing data stored in Elasticsearch. Kibana provides: Discover (ad-hoc log search), Visualize (charts, maps, timelines), Dashboard (composite views), Canvas (infographics), Alerting (threshold and ML-based), and Maps (geospatial analysis). Kibana is the window into your Elasticsearch data — whether that's application logs, security events, APM traces, or business metrics.

Where Kibana Fits in Modern Observability

Kibana is the primary visualization interface for the world's most deployed log analytics platform. While Grafana has become more popular for metrics visualization and supports Elasticsearch as a data source, Kibana offers deeper Elastic Stack integration — especially for log analytics (KQL, Lucene), Elastic APM, Elastic Security (SIEM), and machine learning-based anomaly detection. Organizations using the Elastic Stack for logging, APM, or security analytics need Kibana expertise alongside, not replaced by, Grafana.

Who Should Attend

  • DevOps and SRE engineers building operational dashboards and log analytics
  • Security analysts using Elastic Security (SIEM) in Kibana
  • Application developers using Elastic APM for performance monitoring
  • IT operations engineers managing centralized logging infrastructure

Learning Outcomes

  • Search and analyze logs with Kibana Discover — KQL, Lucene, field-level analysis
  • Build comprehensive dashboards with multiple visualization types and drilldowns
  • Configure Kibana Alerting — threshold-based, ML-based, and composite rules
  • Use Kibana Lens for drag-and-drop visualization without query expertise
  • Create Canvas infographics and reports for leadership and stakeholder communication
  • Manage Kibana spaces, saved objects, index patterns, and user access

  2. Visualization with Lens — Drag-and-drop visualization. Chart types. Layers. Annotations. Formatting. Embedding.
  3. Dashboard Design — Multi-visualization dashboards. Drilldowns. Controls. Time synchronization. Dark mode.
  4. Advanced Visualizations — TSVB (Time Series Visual Builder). Vega/Vega-Lite. Maps. Tag clouds. Heat maps.
  5. Alerting & Actions — Rule types. Conditions. Actions (email, Slack, webhook, ServiceNow, Jira). Alerting UI.
  6. Canvas & Reporting — Canvas workpads. Infographic design. PDF/PNG reporting. Scheduled reports.
  7. Kibana Spaces & Management — Spaces for multi-tenancy. Saved objects. Index pattern management. User roles.
  8. Capstone: Operational Dashboard Suite — Build dashboards for application logs, infrastructure metrics, security events, and business KPIs.
